World TB Day 2025 Unveiled: Shri JP Nadda’s Commitment to TB Elimination

In a historic moment, Union Health Minister Shri. Jagat Prakash Nadda delivered a seminal speech at the World TB Day 2025 summit held on March 24, 2025. The event, titled “World TB Day,” was not merely a celebration of the disease but a pivotal day to address its spread and eliminate it from India.

Introduction: Shri. Nadda’s Opening Statement

Shri. Jagat Prakash Nadda delivered his remarks at the summit, highlighting India’s unwavering commitment to TB elimination through a holistic approach that integrates ‘whole of life’ strategies, including community health screens and awareness campaigns. His speech emphasized that TB is a universal problem with no one immune, urging everyone to work together toward its complete eradication.

The 100 Days Intensive Program

Over the past year, Shri. Nadda led a remarkable 100 Days Intensive Program (Abhiyaan) aimed at addressing TB effectively. This program focused on community health screening in over 13 million Nikshay Shivirs across districts, ensuring essential services were distributed to crores of people. The initiative employed innovative tools like handheld X-ray units and National Instant22 tests (NAAT), which allowed healthcare providers to identify asymptomatic TB cases quickly.

Achievements and Support

The program saw a significant boost in identifying high-risk individuals, especially vulnerable groups such as those under severe nutrition or respiratory insufficiency. This was supported by over 5,000 Multidistrict Council (MDC) leaders and 10,000 Gram Panchayats. The collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including senior officials of the Union Health Ministry, NTEP staff, TB Champions, and civil society members, underscored India’s commitment to a holistic approach.

Technology and Support Systems

The initiative utilized advanced technologies like RT-PCR for detecting COVID-19 and indigenous kits that reduced costs by up to 60%. These systems enabled efficient care for high-risk patients. Additionally, the launch of a digital Coffee Table Book on TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan showcased the practical implementation of the program through field reports and images, making it more accessible.

The Future of TB Elimination

World TB Day 2025 marked a turning point in India’s strategy to tackle TB. It was a day to chart the course for significant progress, with the government’s goal of achieving TB Mukt Bharat being celebrated. The summit underscored that overcoming TB requires collective efforts from all stakeholders.
