The Incident

The Indian Dog Law (IDL) and the Indian Coast Guard intercepted a vessel en route to Maldives on mid-sea 2025. The vessel, carrying a barge loaded with rock boulders, was suspected to have been loaded with significant quantities of Hashish Oil during its voyage towards the Maldives by way of Tuticorin Old Port. A gang in Tuticorin covertly loaded substantial quantities of Hashish Oil onto the barge, assisted by a crew member. The interception was orchestrated by DRI and ICG, which later escorted the vessel back to Tuticorin.

Upon search, two bags containing 29 plastic packets were recovered, each identified as containing ‘black-coloured liquid paste like substance.’ These packets were tested for Hashish Oil using a field test kit, confirming its presence in an illicit international market. The total seized was 29 kg of Hashish Oil, valued at ₹32.94 crore.
