Collaborative Efforts: EAM and NSA Brief India’s Response to Cross-Border Terrorism

In an unprecedented move, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has spoken with his counterparts from countries including Spain, Germany, France, Qatar, and Japan during a joint briefing on India’s firm response to cross-border terrorism under Operation Sindoor. Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs has also briefly informed the envoys of Permanent and Non-Permanent Members (PAM) of the United Nations (UN) Security Council (UNSC), including France, China, Russia, and others.

Dr. Jaishankar’s Opening Statement: Dr. Jaishankar expressed his gratitude to these countries for their solidarity in the wake of the tragic Pahalgam terrorist attack in 2014. He highlighted India’s unwavering commitment to resolutely countercross-border terrorism, ensuring zero tolerance for terrorist activities and their infrastructure.

The Focus on India’s Response: During the briefing with France, Ajit Doval, the National Security Advisor (NSA), elaborated on the efforts India had made to mitigate terrorism in Pakistan and Jammu-Kashmir. Mr. Doval emphasized that while India had taken non-escalatory steps against the threat, it had prepared for potential further escalations in Pakistan.

The Global Collaboration: The briefing underscored how EAM and NSA are collaborating with these countries to strengthen their defense mechanisms and ensure continued counterterrorism efforts. The dialogue highlighted the importance of international cooperation to prevent terrorism both globally and domestically.

Key Points of Discussion:

  • Dr. Jaishankar’s Speaking: He acknowledged the growing threat of cross-border terrorism, which has reached nearly 50 countries worldwide. India had acted swiftly in Operation Sindoor to combat terrorist activity in nine sites across Pakistan, Jammu, and Kashmir.
  • The NSA Briefing with France: The NSA highlighted the necessity of non-escalatory actions against the threat in Pakistan while preparing for potential further escalations in the region.
  • Dr. Doval’s Talk: He stressed India’s preparedness to retaliate if necessary, even if it means facing more criticism.

Conclusion: The briefing by EAM and NSA with India demonstrated their commitment to resolutely countercross-border terrorism while showing solidarity with global partners in the fight against terrorism. The collaboration has the potential to build a stronger defense against terrorism both globally and in India’s own territory.

By fostering international cooperation, we can create a safer world for all.
