CURTAIN RAISER: EX TIGER TRIUMPH - 25
In the grand scheme of international humanitarian assistance, the Fourth Edition of the Exercise Tiger Triumph holds a unique position as a landmark event in the collaboration between India and the United States. This edition, which will take place on the Eastern Seaboard from April 1 to 13, 2025, is dedicated to developing interoperability for HADR operations and formulating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that would establish a Combined Coordination Center (CCC). This CCC would facilitate rapid and smooth coordination between Indian and US Joint Task Forces (JTFs) during exercises and contingencies. The objective of this exercise is to strengthen the bridges between the two nations, ensuring that their efforts are aligned and effectively coordinated.
Participation
The Fourth Edition of Exercise Tiger Triumph will feature a diverse group of participants from both nations. On the Indian side, the participation includes the Indian Naval Ships Jalashwa, Gharial, and Shakti, each equipped with integral helicopters and landing crafts. Additionally, the Indian Army Troops 91 Inf Brigade and 12 Mech Infantry Battalion are present, along with Army RAPT (Rapid Action Medical Team). On the US side, the participation comprises the US Navy Ship Comstock and Ralph Johnson, airmen of the US Marine Division.
Harbour Phase
The Harbour Phase is scheduled at Visakhapatnam from April 1 to 7, 2025. This phase will kick off with an Opening Ceremony featuring a joint Flag Parade and media interaction onboard INS Jalashwa on April 1. During this phase, participants from both nations will engage in extensive training visits, subject matter expert exchanges, sports events, and social interactions. These activities are designed to foster camaraderie and shared responsibility during the exercises.
After the Harbour Phase concludes, the Indian and US ships equipped with troops will sail off for a Sea Phase. This phase will take place starting on April 13, 2025, at Visakhapatnam, where the Sea Phase will involve Maritime, Amphibious, and HADR operations off Kakinada. The objectives of these operations include supporting humanitarian aid teams in real-time, providing medical assistance to affected populations, and ensuring coordinated relief efforts.
Sea Phase
The Sea Phase is a critical component of this exercise, focusing on maritime and amphibious operations. This phase will take place starting on April 13, 2025, at Visakhapatnam, where the ships with troops embarked will sail off the coast for various HADR exercises and contingency activities.
Conclusion
Exercise Tiger Triumph represents a significant step forward in the bilateral cooperation between India and the United States. By bringing together a diverse range of participants from both nations, this edition aims to strengthen interoperability and coordination during crises. The establishment of the Combined Coordination Center (CCC) will serve as a critical hub for rapid decision-making and resource-sharing, ensuring that efforts are aligned and effective.
As the exercise concludes on Visakhapatnam, it becomes clear that the success of Exercise Tiger Triumph hinges on continued collaboration between India and the United States. This initiative not only highlights the importance of international humanitarian assistance but also serves as a reminder of the critical role that each nation plays in addressing global crises.
