CAQM Sub-Committee Calls for Action Under GRAP in the NCR

In the bustling metropolis of Delhi, air quality was once again in question. The Air Quality Index (AQI) clocked a daily average of 206, placing Delhi firmly within the ‘Poor’ category as per the latest AQI Bulletin from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This significant milestone comes after some recent reviews and forecasts.

As part of their responsibilities, the CAQM Sub-Committee on GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) of the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) held a meeting to review air quality in the Delhi-NCR region. This was the second time the Sub-Committee had addressed this critical issue, but it was crucial as the ‘Poor’ AQI level required immediate implementation under GRAP.

The meeting was attended by all agencies involved in NCR and adjoining areas, including Pollution Control Boards (PCBs) of the respective states and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). The CAQM Sub-Committee’s decision to invoke Stage-I of GRAP underscored their commitment to immediate action, ensuring strict adherence to its provisions.

The 27-point action plan outlined by the Sub-Committee is a comprehensive guide for agencies across the NCR, from implementation tasks to targeted actions. This includes dust mitigation measures for Critical Dust Areas (C&D) and roads Open areas, which are pivotal factors in air quality. The Commission has been closely monitoring these developments, holding regular reviews based on Delhi’s AQI and IITM forecasts.

The CAQM Sub-Committee emphasized the importance of cooperation from all agencies to ensure a coordinated response. They stressed that the ‘Poor’ AQI situation necessitates urgent efforts under GRAP to restore and improve air quality in Delhi-NCR.

As air quality has improved, so too must Delhi’s neighbors. This progress reflects the collective responsibility of agencies and citizens alike. The CAQM Sub-Committee’s decision highlights a broader trend where addressing air pollution directly impacts not just Delhi but extends into adjacent regions, fostering a coordinated effort towards environmental sustainability.

In conclusion, the CAQM Sub-Committee’s response under GRAP underscores their leadership in tackling air quality challenges. It serves as a beacon of hope for a cleaner future, urging cooperation and continuous improvement. As air quality becomes more manageable, so will Delhi-NCR, with a commitment to ensuring sustainable living and health for all.
