Revolutionizing Healthcare with PM-ABHIM

In a bid to improve access to quality healthcare, the NCT of Delhi introduced the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) on October 25, 2021. This program aims to strengthen public health infrastructure across urban and rural areas, ensuring better care for senior citizens and other vulnerable populations.

  1. Definition of PM-ABHIM: A Central-Sponsored Scheme (CSS) focused on addressing critical gaps in healthcare by strengthening public health infrastructure. It is designed to cover senior citizens with Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana treatment, a program that provides free or low-cost mental and physical health services.

  2. Objective: Addressing significant health issues faced by the urban and rural populations, PM-ABHIM aims to improve outcomes for millions of people while benefiting the nation’s healthcare system.

  3. Senior Citizens Covered: Senior citizens over 70 receive Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana treatment in designated hospitals. This initiative was highlighted by Shri JP Nadda, who distributed Ayushman cards to 30 beneficiaries in Delhi, enabling them to create their own treatment options.

  4. Cost and Repayment: The scheme’s initial approval cost Rs. 27 crore over two years, with a total cost of Rs. 1.26 lakh crore so far, reflecting the extensive coverage and the need for repayment.

  5. Signaling Benefits: Ayushman cards will be distributed to beneficiary families in Delhi, allowing them to create their own treatment plans. Additionally, an extra Rs.5 lakh is provided per beneficiary family each year for healthcare benefits.
