Agra Report: Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Meeting at Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh

In an exciting new chapter of agricultural and food trade collaboration, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the steadfast leadership of Shri Pema Khandu, delivered a powerful keynote address at the International Conclave cum Buyer-Seller Meet (BSM) held at Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. The event underscored APEDA’s mission to enhance farmer livelihoods, empower Self-Help Groups, and encourage women in the sector through a series of compelling messages.

Keynote Address:

Shri Pema Khandu emphasized that the government’s vision is to foster “Viksit North East,” engaging farmers across borders. He highlighted APEDA’s role in developing agricultural and allied sectors, promoting exports of specific products like rice, oranges, kiwi, apples, walnuts, and vesica piscis. The keynote focused on empowering farmers through these initiatives and building their resilience.

Meetings & Participations:

The meeting was a historic event with 11 international buyers from three countries—Nepal, UAE, and Bhutan—who engaged with 17 Indian exporters across 7 states and UTs in Arunachal Pradesh. Over 200 farmers participated, showcasing the region’s diverse agricultural products.

Role of APEDA:

APEDA facilitated meaningful trade discussions, targeting key sectors like organic produce, millets, honey, fresh fruits, vegetables, processed foods, spices, and teas. Their goal was to unlock the potential of Arunachal Pradesh’s agri-business through international markets, aiming for “Viksit North East.”

Background:

As a statutory body under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, APEDA supports FPOs in India. Collaborating with farmers in Arunachal Pradesh has fostered stronger partnerships, enhancing agricultural resilience.
