In the grand scheme of history, the African-India Key Maritime Engagement (AIKEYME) in 2025 stands as a pivotal event designed to foster mutual and holistic advancement in security and growth across regions. This initiative aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aiming to build stronger regional maritime partnerships that will benefit all involved.

Key Participants and Initiatives

The AIKEYME, a multilateral exercise from April 13 to 18, 2025, involves participation from key African nations: Comoros, Djibouti, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, and South Africa. In addition, India and Tanzania co-host the event. This alignment underscores India’s commitment to regional growth and security.

The ceremony featured the arrival of Indian Naval Ships INS Chennai and INS Kesari on April 10th and 11th, respectively. They were received by Tanzania, with a ceremonial guard parade and band music. The Prime Minister of State for Defense (Sanjay Seth) and Tanzania’s Defence Minister were central figures in the ceremony.

The inauguration ceremony included table-top exercises focused on anti-piracy efforts and information sharing. Joint training sessions in seamanship and Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) were also planned, emphasizing collaborative maritime operations.
