The 89th Meeting of the Network Planning Group: A Vision for Connectivity
In the bustling city of Shri Pankaj Kumar’s hands at the 89th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG), leaders from the Road, Railway, and Metro sectors gathered to evaluate infrastructure projects aimed at achieving multimodal connectivity and enhancing logistics efficiency. These initiatives were pivotal in aligning with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP) and contributing significantly to regional and national economic growth.
MoRTH’s Kaliabor-Numaligarh Highway
The meeting highlighted the ambitious Road project, which aimed to transform a 136.11 km stretch of NH-62 into a two-lane highway with a paved shoulder along Darugiri to Dalu. This strategic initiative was pivotal in making this corridor essential for regional connectivity, facilitating cross-border trade and economic development. By reducing travel times from 240 km to 34 km, it streamlined logistics and boosted socio-economic benefits across regions.
MoR’s Brahmaputra Tunnel Project
The Railway department introduced a four-lane tunnel beneath the Brahmaputra river, which shortened travel time by over three hours (from 6.5 hours to 30 minutes). This twin-tube underwater tunnel not only enhanced connectivity but also supported regional economic growth in Assam and neighboring states, ensuring faster transport for crucial logistics needs.
MoHUA’s Rajkot Metro Project
The Housing and Urban Affairs ministry focused on the Rajkot Metro, a greenfield initiative designed to reduce congestion and provide sustainable urban transport. Integrating seamlessly with existing infrastructure, it ensured multimodal connectivity, enhancing regional rail, city bus services, and public transport options.
Each project was carefully considered under the guidance of the PM GatiShakti framework, ensuring alignment with goals of integrated multimodal infrastructure. The meeting underscored the significance of these initiatives in fostering regional and national economic development through improved connectivity.
