Highlighting India-Uganda Trade Initiatives at JTC 25
In the heart of India-Uganda’s economic landscape, the third session of the India-Uganda Joint Trade Committee (JTC) in New Delhi on 25th-26th March 2025 marked a significant milestone for bilateral trade. With a 23-year gap since their last meeting, this session was not only about discussing issues but also about unlocking potential for economic growth and prosperity.
Key Highlights:
The JTC focused on enhancing India-Uganda’s trade by exploring MoUs in key sectors such as minerals, coffee, cocoa products, pulses, spices, dairy products, essential oils, plastic raw materials, fruits, vegetables, mining, banking, digital infrastructure, agriculture, MSME growth, health, pharmaceuticals, electric vehicles, and critical minerals. Both nations agreed to strengthen collaboration between their investment promotion agencies and explore MoUs for Indian Pharmacopoeia and public works and infrastructure development, agriculture, traditional medicine, Tele-medicine.
The JTC was co-chaired by the Economic Adviser from India and Amb. Joyce Kikafunda Kakuramatsi from Uganda’s High Commission in New Delhi. A 28-member delegation, including officials from various ministries and the Uganda Mission in India, added depth to the discussion with their insights.
Significance of the Session:
The JTC was forward-looking, emphasizing economic ties that were strong and amicable after a long gap. The discussions highlighted how these sectors would boost trade and investment, leading to growth in areas like e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, MSME clusters, solar energy, and rural electrification.
